Baghdad International Book Fair

Baghdad, the capital of glory and civilization, the city that captivated the world and influenced the cultures of peoples... Baghdad of Al-Mutanabbi, Abu Nuwas, and Al-Jawahiri... No one rivals it in leading the Arab cultural scene, and even the global one. It is the capital of thought and culture, and the home of the oldest civilizations in history, where Sumer, Akkad, Babylon, and Chaldea emerged. From this land, the first writing was born, cuneiform letters were inscribed on clay tablets, and the Epic of Gilgamesh was written. From here, the world took its first steps in technology, since the invention of the wheel six thousand years ago.

At a time when Arab world cities were celebrating their successes in hosting book fairs and organizing cultural events, from literary and scientific seminars, Baghdad lacked an exhibition that would highlight its civilizational and cultural face, after a long interruption due to the difficult circumstances that Iraq went through.

From here, our company took it upon itself to revive the true cultural image of Baghdad, by organizing the Baghdad International Book Fair in 2012. It was a major challenge, especially in light of the difficult security conditions at the time, but we insisted on breaking the barrier of fear among Arab and foreign publishers, and encouraging them to return to Baghdad. Thanks to God, the fair was held with special efforts and hard work that lasted for months, to become an annual tradition that reflects Baghdad's cultural identity.

In 2018, our company organized the largest book fair in Iraq's history, with the participation of more than 500 publishing houses, to break the record again in 2019 with the participation of more than 700 publishing houses. But 2020 came differently, as all world exhibitions were canceled due to the pandemic, just two days before the opening of the Baghdad International Book Fair.

Despite that, we did not stop. In 2021, we decided to reorganize the fair, to be the event that announces the return of book fairs to the Arab world after the interruption. The masses returned with their thirst for books and culture, enjoying the atmosphere of the fair and its activities, to confirm the Baghdad International Book Fair's position as one of the most important cultural events in the region.

Today, we are pleased to announce that we have begun preparations for the next edition of the Baghdad International Book Fair, which will bring together book and culture lovers from all over the world. We promise you distinctive events, exclusive releases, and an exceptional cultural experience that reflects Baghdad's authenticity and civilizational spirit.
